An Ounce of Prevention-Men’s Health & Feng Shui

I ran into a friend of mine the other day and as we were talking I found out that she was shopping for a Father’s Day gift for her dad and was struggling to find that “perfect” gift for the man who has everything. Sound familiar? How many sets of barbeque tongs and ugly ties can you give a guy?

June is all about the fellas, in addition to Father’s Day it’s Men’s Health Month too.

This month there is heightened awareness on preventable health problems, early detection, and treatment of diseases impacting men and boys. Many health conditions can be prevented or detected early with regular checkups.

Make prevention a priority!

Studies show that 1 in 2 men get cancer in their lifetime, while in women the number is 1 in 3. On average, women outlive men by 5 years!

Can’t get your man to see the doctor? You’re not alone. However, we all need to schedule annual visits. Young men in particular should at least have annual checkups. June is the perfect time to get those annual checkups.

In Feng Shui the area that corresponds to the man of the house is the Northwest sector. It also represents mentors, benefactors and travel. The metal element as well as the 6 star live in this sector.

The 6 star brings powerful men, men at a distance, older men and those who can help you get ahead. Adding moving metal like a fan or pendulum clock in the northwest corner of the room, your office, or your home is an easy way to stimulate more movement and help from advisors, instructors, and influential people.

It has the added ability to boost your family forward also. This could show up as a wage increase, new job or even a fun family vacation.

If this area is a storage space, cluttered, missing or a bathroom, your man may feel burdened, unsupported, lack motivation and even feel like he struggles in his career.

So it is a no brainer that this is an important sector to activate to help the man of the home to feel supported and nurtured. Here are 5 easy ways to accomplish this:

  1. Declutter this area-Get rid of any wrappers, dirty clothes, dishes or any other items that “clog” up the space. Clutter keeps us stuck.
  2. Display travel images or photos of your benefactors. This is also a great place to display religious or spiritual items such as a Buddha statue.
  3. Make it light & bright. Bring more attention to your man’s career by using proper lighting to “shine” on him.
  4. Show off art pieces with strong Metal element energy
  5. Utilize this space-Keep the chi flowing properly and use this area on the regular.

FYI: NO fire/candles in NW ever – this can deplete the man of the houses income. This is NOT a good location for kitchen because of the stove/oven.

When the Northwest is activated properly it brings healthy Chi to the space and contributes to the supportive energy of the man and that’s a really good thing. 🙂

P.S. Don’t forget to Wear BLUE on Friday, June 15th to raise awareness for health issues that affect the guys. (Cardiovascular disease, skin cancer, lung cancer, diabetes, gout, and more.)
