It’s that time of year when parties and get togethers are happening weekly (or more), decorations and tree trimming supplies are in every room, and the list of To-Do’s is longer than ever.

I don’t know about you, but when things start getting cluttered in my home, I start feeling ancy. This can range from mild anxiety to all out frustration and anger. When these feelings start coming on, I know it’s time to shift the energy and clear the clutter. For myself and those I live with. 😉

Once the energy has been realigned, not only does the space look and feel better, but so do I. And going into the holidays, it’s more important than ever to stay balanced.

Here is a tool I created and wanted to share with you. It’s my personal Holiday Declutter Checklist that I use when I’m preparing my space and myself for the guests and celebrations to come.

 Holiday Declutter Checklist:

  1. Make a plan-Visualize and decide on the area you will be working on. Pay attention to entryway, front door, living room and kitchen. Where people will actually be congregating.

  2. Personal prep-Wear comfy clothes that you can move in and you feel good in. Pull your hair back, turn on your favorite music and get a tall glass of water to keep you hydrated during your task.

  3. Before you begin, be sure to prepare yourself. This means take a moment to close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and clear your personal energy. You can do this with many different things from smudge, to clearing sprays, even just the physical act of “brushing off” any negativity will change your outlook.

  4. Bags, boxes, bins-A huge part of success is having the correct tools to get us to our goal. I like to have all my boxes out and ready as I toss things in. I start with three boxes, one for donation, one for trash and one for returning items to their proper places. This makes it easy to stay organized during the process. I also like to keep an old cloth and multi-purpose cleaner close as I go through each room.

  5. Here we go-Starting in one area, go through and remove anything that doesn’t belong, coats, shoes, cups, pet toys, all of these need to be put away. Place items in the correct bins, cleaning as you go. Decluttered and clean! 😁

  6. Aromatherapy-Light a scented candle or diffuse essential oils to bring a light and airy feel to the space and to elevate your mood.

  7. The payoff-Once you’ve finished, be sure to set an intention or say a prayer for the space. You can say something like: “ Thank you for this space, thank you for the opportunity to come together with friends and family and share food and fun times. May this space be filled with laughter, love and joy for every person that comes here”. Whatever feeling or vibe you want to have is what you instill in the space.

Happy Holidays and Happy Decluttering!🎄
